About 12,000 students take courses each term. Campuses are in Cocoa, Titusville, Melbourne and Palm Bay, with a center at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and other off-site facilities. Classes are available via WBCC-TV Channel 68 and the Internet as part of BCC’s Virtual Campus. BCC provides a two-year associate of arts degree with guaranteed transfer to a state university, 27 associate of science degrees and 50 one- or two-year vocational certificates, as well as programs for community education, business training, dual enrollment, early admission and parent education/lab schools. BCC will start offering four-year degrees and become a state college. Initially, the college will offer a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Organizational Management with two concentrations — general management and health care management — in August 2013.

The Space Coast Center of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University serves local residents interested in obtaining certificates, associate, bachelor or master degrees in management, safety and related aviation/aerospace fields of study. Students attend class one night a week in condensed nine-week terms. Students also can take Internet classes through the center’s Distance Learning Department.

Tuition for undergraduate programs is $260 to $275 a credit hour. Graduate courses are about $400 a credit hour. Financial aid is available. Programs are available in accounting, applied management, business, computer information science, criminal justice, health care administration, medical assistant, medical insurance billing and coding, paralegal and pharmacy technician. Graduate degrees include an MBA with concentrations in accounting, business administration and computer information systems.

Founded in 1958, Florida Tech is the only independent technological university in the Southeast and places highly in several regional and national college-ranking surveys. Washington Monthly rates Florida Tech as the top private university in Florida. The university houses the Ortega 0.8-m telescope, the largest research telescope in Florida, and the Funk Center for Textile Arts, the only textile exhibition center in Florida. About 9,000 students are enrolled at the main Melbourne campus and through 10 off-campus graduate centers, including the Kennedy Space Center and Rockledge sites, and online. The university is divided into five colleges: College of Aeronautics, College of Engineering, College of Business, College of Psychology and Liberal Arts and College of Science. More than 70 bachelor’s degrees, 80 master’s degrees and 30 doctoral degrees are available. Through Florida Tech University Online, working professionals can earn degrees through 48 online programs. Students can choose from degree programs offered in eight-week terms and 16-week semesters, or professional development programs offered in similar formats.

UCF Cocoa is a public university branch campus offering junior, senior and graduate-level courses. Applicants can be BCC graduates or transfer students who completed freshman and sophomore years at approved colleges or universities. UCF-Brevard offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a variety of programs.
