Population: 34,743 Unincorporated. Points of interest: Kennedy Space Center and the Visitor Complex, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary. Fast facts: The island was part of a land grant given by the king of Spain to a nobleman named Merritt. Initial economy based on cattle, pineapple, sugar cane and citrus.
MICCO

Population: 9,052 Unincorporated. Points of interest: Barefoot Bay modular-home development, founded in 1970, occupies 1,100 acres; home to Little Hollywood and Snug Harbor. Fastfact: The community’s shores are dotted with marinas, piers, seafood outlets and marine repair services.
MIMS

Population: 7,058 Unincorporated. Point of interest: Harry T. Moore Memorial Park and Cultural Center honors civil-rights leaders Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore. Fast fact: From early 1920s to about 1927, Mims was a town with a mayor and a council.

Population: 11,265 Unincorporated. Points of interest: Two 18-hole golf courses. There are 4,506 properties in Suntree. Fast fact: Suntree consists of 68 communities, encompassing four square miles north and south of Wickham Road between Interlachen Road and Jordan Blass Boulevard. Suntree Master Homeowners Association is at 7550 Spyglass Hill Road.

Population: 18,712 Incorporated in 1959 Points of interest: Max K. Rodes Park, Erna Nixon Hammock Park. Fast fact: West Melbourne became a city because residents didn’t want to pay property tax. Today, residents do pay property tax.
